Sonam Wangchuk wrote a letter to the government from the hospital. Made demands regarding ending the fast. It said that the families of students who committed suicide should get compensation. There should be a debate in Parliament and the resignation of the Education Minister should be taken. In her letter, Sonam Wangchuk told that Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met her in the hospital last night. For this he expressed gratitude to both the leaders.

Sonam Wangchuk wrote, “During the discussion you had assured me that the government would positively consider adequate compensation to the families of students who committed suicide after the paper leak, meaningful discussions to ensure accountability in Parliament, including consideration of the resignation of the Honorable Education Minister.”

In his letter, he also said, “Despite police excesses and excessive use of force, the Chalo Sansad march on July 20 was very peaceful. The country and the whole world saw their patience and determination to protest democratically. I express my full hope that any legal case, harassment or vindictive action against those involved will not further diminish their faith in democratic institutions.”

About 65 MPs appealed to end the fast – Wangchuk

He further wrote, “After your arrival here, about 65 MPs from different political parties wrote to me. Some people have come and the rest are expected to come by this evening. All of them have appealed to me to end my fast and have reminded me that I still have a lot of work to do in the service of the country. I agree with them.”

I want to live, want to return among students- Wangchuk

In the letter he also said, “I want to live. I want to return to my students, to education, and to the work that has given meaning to my life. But I cannot do this at the expense of the very young people for whom this movement began.”

Legal action should not be taken against any young protestor – Wangchuk

Sonam Wangchuk appealed to the government to assure that no legal action will be taken against any young protestor who joins this movement. His only crime is that he raised his voice for an accountable education system. He said, “If such assurance is given, I will end my fast with the confidence that the government has not only heard my appeal but also understood the aspirations of millions of young Indians.”
