Rajnath Singh On LAC Agreement: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday (October 24) lauded the success achieved in resolving the long-running border tension between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Speaking at the Chanakya Defense Dialogue 2024, he said that months of diplomatic and military talks have resulted in a consensus between the two countries to resume patrolling and grazing rights in traditional areas.
He said, “India and China are holding talks at both diplomatic and military levels to resolve their differences in some areas along the LAC. Following the talks, there has been broad consensus to restore the ground situation based on the principles of equal and mutual security. This includes patrolling and grazing in traditional areas. “It is the power to engage in constant dialogue because sooner or later, a solution will emerge.”
Rajnath Singh gave the example of Chanakya
The Defense Minister said, “Acharya Chanakya had once said – Karya Purushakarena, Lakshyam Sampadyate which means “When a person is determined to achieve the goal, the work is accomplished.” Therefore, let us all resolve to do all we can to accelerate both security and development.
He further said, “Co-existence of security and development is not a simple matter. This requires extensive study, analysis and planning. “I am glad to see that this dialogue is addressing a variety of important issues including geopolitical dynamics, economic development strategies, environmental sustainability and others.”
Tension going on between India and China since 2020
The border agreement between the two countries follows several intensive high-level talks since the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict. The new agreement allows the Indian Army to resume patrolling in key areas like Depsang and Demchok, which have long been flashpoints in the standoff. Resumption of these activities can be seen as a sign of trust and willingness of both countries to reduce military tensions.
