Why did Smriti Irani get ticket from Amethi against Rahul Gandhi? BJP leader made this big claim

Amethi Lok Sabha: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani on Monday said she was fielded against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi not because she was a woman, but because the party felt that only she could defeat him.

Irani’s comments came after it was said that the government should consider giving faster approval to women real estate developers.

“I would rather compete with male developers… I was not sent to Amethi because I am a woman,” Women and Child Development Minister Irani said at a conference organized by CREDAI, an association of real estate developers. I was sent to Amethi because I was the only person who could defeat that man (Rahul Gandhi).”

Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi in the Nehru-Gandhi family bastion Amethi in the 2019 general election by a margin of around 55,000 votes. Earlier in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, she lost to Rahul Gandhi by a margin of one lakh votes.

Asked to promote women real estate ‘developers’
Apart from this, Smriti Irani on Monday asked CREDAI, an association of real estate companies, to promote first generation women real estate ‘developers’.

Addressing the CREDAI Women and Youth Leadership Summit here, Irani asked builders to focus on keeping real estate projects affordable without compromising on construction quality.

He asked the newly elected CREDAI national president Boman Irani, “How many women developers do you know, CREDAI or non-CREDAI?” What are you doing as CREDAI to bring more and more women developers into the business?

He told Boman Irani, who was elected chairman of CREDAI for the period of 2023-25, that if you can give 100 new women developers to the country during your tenure… then your tenure will be successful.

The minister asked CREDAI to help youth, including young women, become first generation real estate ‘developers’. At the event, CREDAI Chairman Boman Irani shared the organisation’s vision for development.
