Tulsi Gabbard Appointment: America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has created a stir in the intelligence community by deciding to appoint former Democratic MP Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence (DNI). This decision of Trump shows that in his second term, he intends to give priority to loyalists rather than traditional experience.
Tulsi was born in American Samoa to Mike Gabbard and Carol Gabbard. Tulsi Gabbard calls herself a Hindu, but she is not of Indian origin. She came to India in 2014, where she met PM Modi. Then PM Modi had praised Tulsi a lot.
Big change in political stance, Gabbard became close to Trump
Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, has been known for her open-mindedness, military service, and unusual foreign policy views. While leaving the Democratic Party in 2022, Gabbard was accused of being a ‘Russian agent’, and her policies were also criticized. After this, Gabbard supported Trump’s ‘America First’ principle and emerged as his strong supporter.
After leaving Congress in 2021, Gabbard turned to conservative media platforms and criticized the Democratic Party as an “elitist cabal of warmongers.” Her language found resonance among Trump’s supporters, and gradually she became an important face in Trump’s political circle.
Why are Five Eyes afraid of ‘danger’?
The Five Eyes is an intelligence alliance of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Under this alliance, all countries exchange intelligence information among themselves. Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination has set Five Eyes on edge. The Wall Street Journal quoted Douglas London, a former CIA operations officer, as saying, “Selecting Gabbard for this position is an insult to the intelligence establishment. Will she shape intelligence? Will she filter and limit it?”
One Western intelligence source has even warned that if Tulsi Gabbard’s pro-Russian policies influence US intelligence policy, it could lead to a reduction in intelligence sharing. Deep concern is being expressed among the intelligence agencies about this possible change.
