‘Buy 30 lakh MT of boiled rice from Telangana and release the dues of Rs 1,468.94 crore’- CM Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy met Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi and raised some important demands for the farmers and supply department of the state. He urged the Center to procure 30 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice from Telangana during the Rabi season.

In this high-level meeting held on Friday (April 17, 2026) at the residence of the Union Minister in New Delhi, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that in the current Yasangi season, about 90 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is expected to be produced in the state, which is very suitable for making boiled rice. He said that the Telangana government is fully prepared to supply 30 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice with 5 per cent broken rice and 5 lakh metric tonnes of raw rice with 10 per cent broken rice.

Union Minister approved the proposal of boiled rice

The Chief Minister also shared data related to the supply of Custom Milling Rice (CMR) and parboiled rice during the last 6 Yasangi seasons. He reminded that in view of the increasing demand across the country, Food Ministry officials themselves had recommended increasing the supply of boiled rice. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi immediately responded to this positive proposal and gave it in-principle approval.

Financial burden on state civil supplies department is increasing: Reddy

Apart from this, to overcome the financial crisis, the Chief Minister appealed for immediate release of dues of Rs 1,468.94 crore related to additional levy of Kharif season 2014-15. He said that Telangana is the largest paddy producing state in the country and here farmers are paid within just 48 hours of purchase. In such a situation, it is extremely necessary to release this amount immediately to reduce the increasing financial burden on the Civil Supplies Department of the state.

This rice was distributed to prevent anemia and malnutrition.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also raised the demand for immediate resumption of distribution of ‘Fortified Rice Kernels’ (FRK). This rice was distributed in schools, hostels and ICDS centers to prevent anemia and malnutrition in children, which was suddenly stopped in recent times. In this important meeting, Special Representative of Telangana Government in Delhi, A. P. Jitender Reddy, Secretary (Coordination) Advit Singh and senior officials of the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution were also present.
