Tussle Over Executive Power: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday (May 19) targeted Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena. He asked whether the Center was conspiring through an ordinance to overturn the Supreme Court verdict giving executive power to the elected government in matters of services.
Last week, in a significant Supreme Court judgement, the Delhi government was given executive power in service matters, including transfer and posting of officers. Delhi Services Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj also questioned whether the Lieutenant Governor and the Center were conspiring to reverse the decision by bringing an ordinance.
Kejriwal reiterated Bharadwaj’s allegation in a tweet
Delhi’s Services Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bharadwaj told a press conference that he had asked all his cabinet colleagues to inform Services Secretary Ashish Has requested to attend the meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to approve the file related to More’s transfer. Later, in a tweet, Kejriwal reiterated Bhardwaj’s allegation.
Kejriwal said in a tweet, ‘Why is the Lieutenant Governor not obeying the orders of the court? Why didn’t you sign the file of the service secretary for two days? It is being said that the Center is going to reverse the order of the Supreme Court by bringing an ordinance next week?’’ Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal questioned in his tweet, ‘‘Is the central government plotting to overturn the court order? Is the Lieutenant Governor waiting for the ordinance, that’s why not signing the file?’’
Delhi Government sent the file two days back
Delhi Education Minister Atishi Marlena said that by suppressing the file to change the Services Secretary, LG is working against the decision of the Supreme Court. Now the rumor is that a conspiracy is being hatched to overturn the court order through ordinance.
Earlier, Delhi Services Minister Bhardwaj requested Lieutenant Governor Saxena to approve a file related to the transfer of Services Secretary Ashish More, stating that several administrative changes are stuck due to the delay. Bhardwaj has said in a letter to the Lieutenant Governor that the Delhi government had sent the file two days back.
