‘Coromandel Express derailed or…’ Railway Board explained how the train accident happened

Odisha Train Accident: In the train accident that took place on Friday (June 7) in Balasore, Odisha, the Railway Board has now held a press conference and said that the accident happened due to a problem in signalling. So far 288 people have lost their lives in this accident, while more than one thousand people have been injured.

Railway Board member Jaya Verma Sinha described the picture of the incident. He told, the Coronmandal Express had received the green signal to leave Bahanaga station. The speed of this train is 130 km per hour and during the accident it was running at a speed of 128 which clearly shows that it is not a case of over speeding. Initial investigation revealed that there was a problem in signalling. Due to the green signal, she was running at her own speed and collided with the goods train standing in the loop line. The speed was so fast that the engine of the train rammed the compartment of Magaladi.

Coromandel Express collided with the last two bogies of Yesvantpur Express

Jai Verma further said, the goods train did not derail because the goods train was carrying iron ore, so the Coromandel Express suffered the most. It is the cause of a large number of deaths and injuries. The derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express came on the down line and collided with the last two coaches of the Yesvantpur Express, which was crossing the down line at a speed of 126 km/hr.

#WATCH , According to the preliminary findings, there has been some issue with the signalling. We are still waiting for the detailed report from the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Only Coromandel Express met with an accident. The train was at a speed of around 128 km/h: Jaya… pic.twitter.com/7OdodYSk7D

Those responsible have been identified – Jaya Verma

Jaya Verma further said, the people responsible for the accident have been identified but cannot reveal it now as the investigation is on. Answering a question from ABP News, Jaya said, “We are trying to understand what might have happened.” We have a digital record which is not showing any error but the accident happened means something went wrong. We know preliminary but wait for the CRS report.

It is tamper proof – Jaya Verma

Referring to the electronic interlocking, Jaya said that it is tamper proof. This is a type of machine due to which there is a scope of .01 percent failure. He further said, it is not yet clear whether the Coromandel Express derailed or hit the goods train.

Senior officers are answering the calls – Jaya Verma Sinha

Railway Board member Jaya Verma Sinha further said, our helpline number 139 is available. This is not a call center number, our senior executives are answering the calls and we are trying to connect as many people as possible. The family members of the injured or deceased can call us and we will make sure that they can meet them. We will take care of their travel and other expenses.
