ED’s big action against Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, raids at five places, many bank accounts frozen

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) arrested former Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Major action has been taken in the case of alleged money transactions related to the party Trinamool Congress (TMC). ED started investigating TMC’s HDFC Bank accounts of around Rs 440 crore and froze the accounts and in this regard, raids were also conducted at five different places on Tuesday (July 7).

In this case, there are allegations of alleged wrongful financial transactions, raising money and sending Rakan here and there through disputed bank accounts which came to light after the assembly elections. On which debit freeze has already been imposed and ED is now investigating money laundering and the source of funds.

What was revealed in ED investigation?

Under the ambit of investigation are the companies of Carewell Group, which work in the aviation sector. According to ED, between April 2023 and June 2026, about Rs 160 crore was sent from AITC accounts to Carewell Aviation India Private Limited and another company associated with it. The agency claims that after this, Carewell Aviation India Private Limited sent about Rs 82.96 crore to a new company of its own between 2023 and 2026.

During the raid, ED came to know that a major part of this amount was invested in purchasing Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft and Agusta 109 SP helicopter through a company. According to ED, about Rs 112 crore was spent on the purchase of these two. The investigating agency also claims that some foreign funds were also used in purchasing the helicopter, but most of the money came directly from AITC accounts.

What did ED say on the matter?

According to ED, after purchasing the aircraft and helicopter, they were given on rent to AITC only. In return, a huge amount was paid in the name of using the aircraft. ED says that prima facie the entire transaction seems suspicious and efforts are being made to find out for what purpose this money was actually used.

Political uproar over ED action in Bengal

However, the politics of West Bengal has heated up regarding this matter. TMC It is being called an act of revenge, while BJP is calling it an action against corruption. According to sources, the places raided include the office of a private aviation company, Carewell Aviation India Private Limited.

It is alleged that this company earlier used to provide chartered planes to senior TMC leaders, including Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. The investigating agency is now investigating these financial transactions and sources of funds.

The matter has now reached the court. Mamata Banerjee faction had challenged the freezing of accounts in the Kolkata High Court, but the court refused to grant immediate relief. After this, ED has intensified the investigation from the aspect of money laundering. The agency is now trying to find out where this huge amount deposited in the accounts came from and for what purposes it was used. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
