EVMs used in South Africa were used in Karnataka? Election commission told the truth

Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: The results of the assembly elections held on May 10 in Karnataka will be revealed on May 13, but before that the Election Commission has rejected the Congress’s claim regarding the EVM machine. The Election Commission said on Thursday (May 11) that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the Karnataka Assembly elections have already been used in South Africa.

The commission also asked the party to publicly disclose the source who spread this ‘fake information’. In this matter, the commission has sought information from the Congress party by May 15.

Congress leader expressed concern
In a letter to Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala, the Election Commission has said that new EVMs made by ‘Electronic Corporation of India’ were used in the Karnataka assembly elections. In a letter to the commission on May 8 this month, the Congress had raised concerns over the “re-use” of machines “used” in South Africa in the Karnataka assembly elections and sought an explanation.

‘Congress should reveal the sources’
The Election Commission said that the EVMs were neither sent to South Africa nor did the Commission use any such EVMs here. Rejecting Congress’s claim, the Election Commission said that the party should also disclose its sources which spread such misinformation.

The commission has sought information from the Congress party on the action taken on this claim by 5 pm on May 15. Voting for all 224 seats in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly was held in a single phase on 10 May. Now the counting of votes will take place on May 13 and the results of the election will come out.
