FIR after fire in Delhi hotel, owner arrested, emergency meeting of LG, now big action is going to happen

Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire: 21 people, including 18 foreign nationals, died in a massive fire in a hotel located in Malviya Nagar in the national capital Delhi. This tragic accident happened in a five-storey ‘bed and breakfast’ building in Hauz Rani area. In the initial investigation, the cause of the fire is being considered as suspected cylinder explosion, although the possibility of short circuit has not been ruled out.

Hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj has been arrested in this case. Earlier, Lavkesh Bajaj and his wife were absconding. After which Delhi Police had issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against both of them, so that they could not leave the country. Many police teams were conducting continuous raids to arrest him. Let us know five big things related to this incident-

1- After the incident, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu held an emergency meeting with the officials and ordered a one-month special fire safety campaign. Under this, hotels, guest houses, nursing homes and coaching institutes will be inspected. Also, instructions have been given to seal the establishments violating fire safety rules.

2-It was reported that the fire broke out in ‘Flourish Stay B&B’ at around 8:30 in the morning and quickly spread throughout the building. The building had only one entry and exit, the windows were permanently closed and the main door was sensor based, making the building a ‘death trap’ of sorts.

3- Investigation has also revealed that additional floors were built in the building without permission and necessary approvals related to fire safety were also not taken. During the accident, people were seen trying to get out by breaking windows to escape the smoke and fire and were seen pleading for help. A woman jumped from the third floor with her child, while locals tried to save many people by spreading mattresses below.

4- Seeing the people jumping, Arman, the owner of the blanket shop in front of the hotel, immediately spread as many quilts and mattresses on the road to save them from injuries, while other people helped the injured by giving CPR. Arman told PTI, “At that time we did not think about anything else, just provided mattresses and quilts as per the need.” Another eyewitness Sheikh Ali said that due to the fire, the doors were closed and the windows were completely sealed, due to which the people trapped inside could not come out for a long time. According to local residents, stones and hammers were used to break windows and main doors to save people.

5-Another resident Asif claimed that the fire extinguishers present in the building were inadequate to deal with such a big fire. At Max Hospital across the road, panicked and shocked relatives gathered in search of their loved ones. They kept going through the list of injured and dead and kept calling continuously. One person cried and said, “We are not able to recognize them from the pictures, all of them are badly burnt.” Namit Goyal, who was among these people, said that six of his relatives were hit by this accident, out of which four have been identified, while two are yet to be identified.

According to Max Hospital, of the 39 people brought there, 18 were declared dead, while 15 were admitted to the ICU, of which eight are on ventilator and their condition is critical. Many people were struggling to breathe due to the smoke, some had minor burns and some had fractures. Five injured were discharged after first aid, while one seriously burnt patient was referred to Safdarjung Hospital.

Thirteen patients were admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), three of whom were injured after jumping from the building. According to a senior police officer, 10 policemen were also injured during the rescue operation. President on this incident Draupadi Murmu and prime minister Narendra Modi Many leaders including others expressed deep condolences and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
