FIR against Bajrang Punia, Sakshi and Vinesh, case registered in these sections including inciting riots

Wrestlers Protest: The Delhi Police has registered a case against the wrestlers protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India. The wrestlers against whom the case has been registered include eminent wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia. The Delhi Police took this action on Sunday (May 28), hours after the protesting wrestlers marching towards the Parliament House were taken into police custody.

Delhi Police said, a case has been registered against wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat and other organisers. Some wrestlers had come to Jantar Mantar late in the night but they were not allowed and sent back.

New history is being written – Vinesh

Responding to the FIR, Vinesh Phogat said that a new history is being written. Phogat wrote on her Twitter page, “Delhi Police took 7 days to register an FIR against Brij Bhushan who sexually assaulted us and did not even take 7 hours to register an FIR against us for protesting peacefully. Is dictatorship in this country Has begun? The whole world is watching how the government is treating its players. A new history is being written.”

Bajrang Punia raised question on detention

On Sunday (May 28), the protesting wrestlers had announced Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat in front of the Parliament House. The police did not allow this. Despite this, the wrestlers did a ‘peaceful march’ towards the Parliament, after which the police took them into custody. Late night Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat were released but Punia was not released. Punia has questioned his police custody.

Punia wrote on Twitter, I am still in police custody. Not telling anything. Have I committed any crime? Brij Bhushan should have been in jail. Why have we been kept in prison?

Case registered under these sections

Sections under which cases have been registered against the players include Section 147 (rioting), Section 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant from duty), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 332 ( The protesters have also been charged under Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, along with 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from duty) and 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from duty).

Protest ends at Jantar Mantar

Along with taking action on the wrestlers, the police have removed all the belongings from the protest site at Jantar Mantar and the place has been cleaned. This means that now the players will not be able to strike back.
