Supreme Court On Delhi Air Pollution: The Supreme Court has once again shown strictness regarding pollution in Delhi-NCR. While hearing the case on Monday (November 25), the court said that for the time being, Grape 4 will remain in force in the capital Delhi and NCR areas. At the same time, regarding the opening of schools, the Supreme Court has directed that the Air Quality Management Committee should decide by tomorrow whether schools can be opened or studies will be conducted online only. The next hearing will be held on Thursday (28 November) at 3.30 pm.
The court asked the committee to consider the options considering the level of pollution, so that it can be seen how to open the educational institutions. Because due to non-opening of educational institutions, there are lakhs of children who are not getting even mid-day meal. The commission should also see whether schools (physical education) can be opened for students of class 10th and 12th.
What did the Supreme Court say about Grape-4?
The court said that until we are satisfied that the pollution level is decreasing, we cannot consider coming down from Group-3. The court said that we also have to see that due to the construction work that has stopped due to Grape-4, the workers are not getting wages. For that, all the states should help them with the money collected under labor cess. The data that has come out from 20th to 23rd November has shown that the pollution level in Delhi and NCR during this period has been between 300 to 419.
‘Serious lapse in checking vehicles’
The court said that we have received the report of the Court Commissioner which shows that only after the last hearing of the court, police have been deployed at many entry points, before that the police did not even have proper instructions as to what type of vehicles. Who has to be stopped and who not? This shows how the rules were not being followed despite the implementation of Grap 4 and this is a serious lapse.
