Saturday (13 June 2026) was recorded in golden letters in the history of the Indian Military Academy (IMA). The moment which was probably awaited for decades, for the first time, nine female cadets marched as military officers in the passing out parade (POP) of IMA. When the ranks were adorned on the shoulders of these nine daughters, it was not just a ceremony, it was an announcement of the changing picture of the Indian Army.

At 6:40 in the morning, when the footsteps of the cadets’ shoes echoed on the ground from where so many generations of soldiers have emerged, there was a different emotion in the atmosphere. When President Murmu took the salute in front of Chatwood Bhawan, pride was clearly visible on his face.
515 cadets crossed the last step
In this time’s parade, a total of 515 gentleman cadets completed their training and donned the army uniform. There were 481 Indian cadets, including nine women cadets. Apart from this, 34 cadets from 16 friendly countries also completed training from the academy and got commission in the armies of their respective countries. After the parade, a shopping ceremony was organized; that emotional moment was when the families put stars on the shoulders of their sons and daughters. This time the meaning of this ritual was deeper, because for nine families this moment was the celebration of a daughter becoming an officer for the first time.
This is a changing picture – President Murmu
President Murmu described this occasion as not just a ceremony, but a symbol of the country’s changing thinking and growing strength. He said that the passing out of women officers from IMA proves that the daughters of India are now ready to protect the country on every front. It is noteworthy that this is the second time when a woman President played the role of chief guest in the IMA parade. Earlier, former President Pratibha Patil had also taken the salute here.
Reached Dehradun only on Friday
President Murmu reached Jolly Grant Airport a day earlier on Friday, where she was welcomed by Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Senior), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan and DGP Deepam Seth. After this she reached Rashtrapati Niketan and met various dignitaries. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and all senior officers of the army and administration were also present in the parade.
