Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Doctors of government hospitals in Delhi have gone on strike in protest against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Due to this, all non-emergency services and OPDs have been closed indefinitely in 10 government hospitals of Delhi from Monday (12 August). Meanwhile, resident doctors of Delhi MMM have put forward 6 demands amid the protest.

According to India Today’s report, thousands of doctors and PG students went on a nationwide strike to protest the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. In fact, last week, the body of a woman was found in Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, which caused a sensation across the country. Doctors of Delhi’s AIIMS put forward six demands, which include handing over the investigation of the case to the CBI, strict action against the culprits, compensation to the victim’s family, dismissal of the hospital’s principal and security in-charge.

Resident Doctors Association of Delhi AIIMS has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. Along with this, there is also a demand to dismiss the Principal, MS and Security In-charge of RG Kar Medical College Hospital. Apart from this, the members of the association have put forward 6 demands. In which a written assurance has also been sought from the Central Government that the Central Protection Act will be implemented for doctors. Along with this, there is also a demand to name a building or library in the hospital after the victim doctor and give him the status of a martyr. Apart from this, along with giving adequate compensation to the victim’s family, there is also a demand to take strict action against police harassment.

Kolkata Police will now question more people

Meanwhile, the intelligence department of Kolkata Police has questioned three doctors and a housekeeping staff member working at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in connection with the rape and murder of the trainee doctor. Police sources say that those questioned include an intern doctor, two trainee doctors who are first year students of the Chest Medicine department and a housekeeping staff member.

He said that the four people who have been called were on night duty on 9 August, the day the trainee doctor’s body was found in a semi-nude state. However, some of them had gone to dinner with the victim before the incident.

What is the whole matter?

On the morning of 9 August 2024, a sensation spread when the body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In this case, the police say that the accused first killed the female doctor and then raped her. The post-mortem report said that the victim was found with injury marks on her body. Only after that it was known that she was raped before she was murdered.

However, the police arrested the accused in this case on August 10 (Saturday) and he has been sent to 14-day police remand.
