  • Mamata Banerjee lost Bhawanipur seat, defeated by Shubhendu Adhikari by more than 15 thousand votes.
  • Experts believe this signals the end of the 15-year rule.
  • Mamta called it an immoral victory of BJP and looting of votes, but will not resign.
  • BJP also won Muslim dominated seats by mobilizing Hindu voters.

This time, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee not only lost the West Bengal elections, but she also lost the Bhawanipur assembly seat, which is called her home, and this time too, the strong leaders of the BJP are the voice of the party against Mamata. Shubhendu Adhikari He became the only one who defeated him by more than 15 thousand votes. The special thing is that Shubhendu had defeated Mamta in Nandigram in the 2021 elections also, but then Bhawanipur had kept Mamta as the Chief Minister of the state. But this time there was such a tsunami of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, in which Mamata Banerjee’s Bhawanipur fort also collapsed.

Mamta Banerjee is not ready to accept the public mandate

Political experts say that the defeat of Bhawanipur is not just the defeat of one seat, but contains the message of changing the larger political narrative. The message is that west bengal Didi’s 15 year rule has ended and for the first time saffron is going to be waved in Bengal.

However, Mamata Banerjee is terming this defeat as BJP’s immoral victory and looting of votes and has even said that she has not lost the election, hence she will not resign, but meanwhile the most surprising thing is what happened that changed the political picture of Bengal. How and why did Mamata Banerjee become a stranger to West Bengal in this story of defeat?

Trinamool Congress’s fort collapsed in Bengal

Not only Mamata Banerjee, but the entire opposition had the unwavering belief that if anyone is taking on the BJP directly, it is Mamata Banerjee, but the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections have given a huge blow to Mamata Banerjee as well as the entire opposition. Mamata Banerjee fought against BJP with full force, but this time she could not stop BJP from breaking the fort of West Bengal.

Even before the election results came out, BJP was announcing the departure of Mamata Banerjee due to injury. After the bumper voting in the first phase, Amit Shah’s confidence had increased even more and as soon as the BJP’s figures started increasing in the result tally on the day of the results. Silence started spreading in the TMC camp. BJP was moving towards majority, but Mamata was claiming victory till the final results came, but by the end of the afternoon, celebrations of waving saffron started in Bengal. On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the counting center of Bhawanipur seat.

Mamta Banerjee said that this victory of BJP is a fraud. While holding a press conference on Tuesday (May 5, 2026), he raised questions about BJP’s victory. She claims that even though BJP has won officially, morally it has won in Bengal, whereas experts are saying that Mamata Banerjee has become convinced that she will not lose Bengal.

BJP changed the entire political game in Bengal

In fact, for the last decade, Congress and Left were continuously weakening in West Bengal and sensing this, Modi and Amit Shah were trying hard to become a strong alternative against Mamata in Bengal. Polarization- This word has always been used for BJP, but polarization in Bengal was such that the political game changed. BJP has been calling Mamata Banerjee a party of Muslims. BJP had made this move to win over the Hindus in its favor and the move worked in such a way that this time Mamata could not even save the seat in the Muslim dominated area in Bengal.

It is the result of mobilization of Hindu voters that TMC’s score became zero in big districts like Bakura, East Mednapur, Purulia, Bardhaman. At the same time, TMC could not repeat its performance in 9 Muslim dominated districts of Bengal including Murshidabad, Malda, Birbhum and Uttar Dinajpur, because the Hindu vote was united and the Muslim vote was divided. Then the result was that out of 160 Muslim dominated seats, Mamata Banerjee, who had won 129 last time, was reduced to just 67, while BJP won 86 out of 160 seats. Last time BJP had got only 30 seats in this area.

66 percent of Mamata’s ministers could not save their seats

BJP’s storm in Bengal was such that no one from the Electricity Minister to the Finance Minister, from the Women and Child Development Minister to the Labor and Transport Minister could save their seats. 66 percent of Mamata’s ministers lost their seats. This figure confirms that the spark of protest against Mamata was burning on the land of Bengal, which was turned into fire by BJP. Bengal’s mind was changing. Bengal started looking towards BJP from Didi and the Prime Minister took stock of this changing mind. Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah Had taken it.
