Controversy over stopping Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi reached Manipur on Thursday, June 29, but shortly after landing at the airport, Rahul’s convoy was stopped. The police did not allow Rahul to go by road citing security reasons, after which Rahul Gandhi reached Churachandpur by helicopter and met the people present in the relief camps. The Congress alleged that the BJP government did this to thwart Rahul Gandhi’s visit, while the BJP said that the leaders’ visit could further increase differences in Manipur.

Two people died in violence
The peace prevailing in Manipur for the last few days was shattered when two suspected rioters were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Haraothel village of Kangpokpi district on Thursday (June 29) morning. Five people were also injured in this firing incident. Officials told that the people of the community from which both the deceased miscreants belonged, tried to take out a procession with their dead bodies to the Chief Minister’s residence in Imphal. The procession turned violent when the police stopped them from reaching the Chief Minister’s residence. After this, the police released tear gas shells and lathicharged to disperse the crowd.
