The year 2025 is considered very important in terms of increasing India’s military strength. India’s next generation cruise missile capability is going to increase in 2025. Actually, India is going to start flight testing of BrahMos-NG Indo-Russian cruise missile with Russia by the end of 2025.
BrahMos Export Director Praveen Pathak gave this information at the World Defense Show that ended on 8 February. Pathak told that samples of the new BrahMos-NG rocket will be collected for flight test. He said that it will be launched in late 2025 or early 2026.
This announcement came at a time when a deal worth $7 billion has been signed between India and Russia and this missile is a joint venture between India and Russia. Pathak said, Brahmos’ order portfolio has already reached $7 billion, which includes both Indian and export orders.
BrahMos is India’s most powerful missile
Bamhos is one of India’s most powerful missiles and the Indian Army has been using it for a long time. Its name is derived from the connection of the Brahmaputra River of India and the Moskva River of Russia. Bamhos was jointly developed by India and Russia. India is working towards developing a compact version of the rocket in view of the threat from China and Pakistan. Now India and Russia together have started work on BrahMos NC. Its biggest feature is that it will not come under the enemy’s radar. That means this is a secret and light variant of the existing missile.
How different is BrahMos NC from the old BrahMos?
BrahMos-NG is about 50 percent lighter than the old BrahMos. Not only this, it is also three meters short. However, its range is same as the old one i.e. 290 kilometers. In February last year, the CEO of BrahMos had said that it would be fitted in the indigenous LCA Tejas aircraft of the Air Force. The new BrahMos-NG developed for LCA Tejas will significantly increase the combat capability of the aircraft. Initially it will be installed in fighter jets manufactured in Russia. Later it will be updated for Tejas. Four BrahMos NG can be installed in Su-30 MKIs, while two BrahMos NG can be used in Tejas.
