ED has started investigation in the case of bribe offer of Rs 35 crore to TVK MLA in Tamil Nadu. ED has started investigation into the alleged illegal money transfer case related to Royapettah, Chennai. Under this, ED officials obtained copies of documents related to this case from Chennai Metropolitan Police. In this case, the police have already recovered cash worth Rs 60 lakh from a suspect. Now ED will investigate the source of this amount and the entire network of alleged money transactions.
The matter came to light when Tamil Nadu’s ruling Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA from Uthankarai assembly constituency N. Ilaiyaraaja lodged a complaint with Chennai Police. In his complaint, the MLA alleged that a person named Thirunavukkarasu claimed to be the owner of an election survey company named Indian Political Democratic Strategies (IDPS).
What is the allegation of TVK MLA?
According to the MLA, the accused asked him to support the no-confidence motion to be brought against the Assembly Speaker. In return, a bribe of Rs 35 crore was offered. The MLA also alleged that he was threatened if he rejected the proposal. Ilaiyaraaja lodged a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner on June 29. Based on the complaint, Triplicane police registered a case.
Police engaged in investigation of the case
During the investigation, the police alleged that the main accused Thirunavukkarasu had married former Tamil Nadu minister V. Senthil Balaji and his brother R.V. Ilaiyaraaja was contacted at the behest of Ashok Kumar. Meanwhile, the Madras High Court on Wednesday (July 8) granted anticipatory bail to Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar and directed them to cooperate in the investigation and appear before the investigating officer if necessary. The police have made it clear that the investigation is ongoing and efforts have been intensified to trace Laxman Perumal and other accused. Perumal’s role is also being investigated.
