Karnataka CM Oath Ceremony: karnataka assembly election Congress has won with majority. Siddaramaiah as the new CM in the state and DK Shivakumar as Deputy CM took oath on Saturday (May 20) at Sri Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Along with them, eight Congress MLAs KH Muniyappa, G Parameshwara, Priyank Kharge, MB Patil, Satish Jarkiholi, Jamir Ahmed Khan, KJ George and Ramalinga Reddy have also taken oath as ministers. Despite this, there are many challenges before the Congress. Let us understand in these five points what challenges the party may have to face after getting the ministerial post.
1. Those who have been given the post of ministers, the challenge will be in front of them that how they implement the main promises of the party and ensure an effective governance. However, many times it also goes in cold storage, after which other factors dominate.
2. Ensuring regional balance in representation in the Ministry is also no less than a challenge. Apart from Kittur Karnataka and the city of Bengaluru, there have been recent ministers from the old Mysore region, which Kalyana Karnataka and Central Karnataka must have been hoping for as adequate representation as Coastal Karnataka. There are some districts in which the Congress has performed exceptionally well. It can be expected that the representation of those districts will be more, anyway less than a year is left for the Lok Sabha elections.
3. Ensuring the right caste balance can also influence the choice of ministers. The Congress won the election by bringing all sections together. Lingayat and Vokkaliga are the dominant castes and they want adequate representation. At the same time, Congress has also collected votes of minorities and scheduled castes. Apart from this, the demand for making deputy CM was already being raised from here itself. For the Congress, giving adequate representation to these communities in the ministry with appropriate number of senior posts will also prove to be no less than a challenge.
4. The biggest challenge for the Congress leadership is to balance seniority with fresh faces. About one-fourth of the MLAs have been ministers earlier, it will be very difficult for the party to decide which of them to give priority to. Also, maintaining balance will not be that easy. In this election, none of the political parties gave adequate representation to women in the selection of candidates. In such a situation, the question arises whether Congress will give traditional symbolic representation to women while allotting portfolios?
5. Last time Congress had to face factionalism. Giving representation to different factions within the party and taking everyone together is no less than a challenge.
Division of departments will be a challenge
When the ministerial posts are distributed in the Congress, it will also be a challenge for the party to distribute the portfolios. The above five points will also play an important role while allotting the portfolios. The importance of the portfolio will be more for the implementation of the promises of the government, because the assessment of the performance of the government will be linked to the concerned ministries.
