Smoke from mosquito coil is more dangerous than cigarette! Then these diseases become the reason

Mosquito Coil Health Risk: As soon as summer comes, mosquitoes also enter the houses. We may keep lakhs of windows and doors closed, but still mosquitoes enter the houses and then bite and make human life difficult. While some people use insecticides to avoid them, some people try to get rid of them by burning coils. But do you know that this coil can make your life hell and can cause many diseases.

Actually, many people keep the coils burning inside the house. The smoke released when the coil is burnt can increase the pollution level of the room and can cause Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD. According to a study, if a person inhales the smoke from a coil, it can be equivalent to smoking 100 cigarettes. Not only this, the smoke of incense sticks used in worship is equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes.

According to some data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, at least 6 people lose their lives every day in Mumbai due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD, which is an inflammatory disease of the lungs. This condition is not only of Mumbai, but many people are suffering from this disease in many parts of India. A study published in the British Medical Journal estimated that 98 per cent of people lost their lives to COPD in India per 1,00,000 population in the year 2019.

How do coils work?

The old coils and sticks were earlier prepared from pyrethrum paste. While pyrethroid insecticides are put in today’s mosquito coils or they are prepared from plants like citronella. According to the University of Sydney, there is no evidence that burning mosquito coils containing insecticide can prevent diseases such as malaria or protect yourself from mosquitoes.

Health experts recommend that you can adopt these measures to protect yourself from mosquitoes: –

1. Wear full sleeve shirt and long pants.
2. Sleep with a mosquito net.
3. Remove stagnant water immediately to prevent mosquito breeding.
4. Keep cleanliness around your house.
5. Keep doors and windows closed in the evening.
6. To prevent mosquitoes from being born, do fogging from time to time.
