- Wholesale inflation rose to 8.30% in April, the highest level in 42 months.

WPI Data April 2026: Inflation pressure in the country now seems to be increasing rapidly. The country’s wholesale inflation rate i.e. WPI has increased to 8.30 percent in April 2026. Whereas in March this figure was 3.88 percent. This is considered to be the highest level in the last 42 months i.e. about three and a half years. Due to which the prices of everyday items may be further affected in the future.
Fuel & Power sector spoiled the game
The biggest contribution to this increase has been from the fuel sector. Fuel & Power inflation jumped from 1.05 percent in March to 24.71 percent in April. At the same time, wholesale inflation of crude oil has been recorded above 88 percent.
The increase in prices of petrol by 32.40 percent and diesel by 25.19 percent has further increased the inflationary pressure. An increase of 10.92 percent has also been recorded in LPG prices. These figures clearly show that the pressure of inflation on the common people is continuously increasing.

The direct impact of the rise in crude oil prices due to the Iran crisis and tension in the Gulf countries is visible in these figures. Inflation of primary articles increased from 6.36 percent in March to 9.17 percent in April. Inflation in manufactured products increased from 3.39 percent to 4.62 percent.

Core WPI i.e. inflation of other things except food and fuel reached 5 percent, which is the highest level in 43 months. In March it was 3.7 percent. It is a matter of relief that food items did not become more expensive. Food inflation increased from 1.85 percent in March to only 2.31 percent. The prices of onion and potatoes in the wholesale market are still much lower than last year. According to DPIIT, WPI figures for May will be released on June 15.
