According to a report by ET, e-commerce companies are going to need lakhs of people during the festive season. According to the report, the demand for gig workers in quick commerce companies like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and Zepto can increase by a tremendous 40 percent. It is believed that e-commerce companies will need 10-12 lakh additional gig workers in the festive months to make home deliveries.
Opportunities in e-commerce and food delivery too
The report quotes industry insiders as saying that when the festive season is at its peak, e-commerce and food delivery platforms will need to add about 20 percent more gig workers. This means that in the upcoming festive months, jobs are going to come in traditional e-commerce and food delivery segments along with quick commerce.
So many lakh people are getting employment
According to the report, currently around 3-4 lakh riders are working with various quick commerce platforms. At the same time, the number of riders working with e-commerce and food delivery companies is up to 40-50 lakh. Two-thirds of them are gig workers associated only with the e-commerce ecosystem. At present, among these three segments, the number of jobs available in quick commerce may be the least, but it is witnessing the fastest growth.
Increasing reach of e-commerce companies
In fact, smartphones and affordable internet have taken e-commerce companies to remote villages. Even in rural areas, people have started preferring online shopping in large numbers. During the festive season, when e-commerce companies come up with great offers, their sales increase further. They need additional workers to meet the increased demand of customers and to deliver goods to the last mile.
People get extra opportunities to earn
On one hand, this helps companies to expand their reach, on the other hand, people get additional opportunities to earn during the festive season. It is said that e-commerce companies pay gig workers Rs 20 to Rs 30 for every delivery.
