Grandmother’s care: Drinking water is an important part of life. Water keeps you hydrated and reduces the risk of many diseases. Therefore, health experts also recommend drinking enough water.

But as important as it is to drink water, it is equally important to drink it in the right way. That’s why the elders in the house always tell us the right way to drink water. If our grandmothers see us standing and drinking water, they immediately interrupt us and say that we should drink water while sitting and not while standing.

What is Islamic belief?

In one narration, Prophet Muhammad has told people not to drink water while standing. There are two opinions in the interpretation of this hadith. Some scholars take this hadith literally and say that drinking water while standing is haraam.

According to Islam, whenever you drink water or anything else, drink it while sitting comfortably. But except Abe Zamzam and the remaining water of Waju, it is considered safe to drink while standing. Along with this, it is also said in Islam that water should always be drunk with the right hand only.

Health experts also believe that one should not drink water while standing (Drinking Water Mistake). Drinking water while standing does not quench the thirst completely and harmful toxins are not able to come out of the body, nor are the essential nutrients or vitamins of water able to reach other parts of the body.

It is said that while drinking water while standing, water enters the body very fast and hence can affect the lungs and heart. For these reasons, it is advised to drink water while sitting comfortably. Along with drinking water, the same thing applies to eating food also.
