Divine great coincidence of Maharatri of Holi and lunar eclipse: Confluence of saints in Haridwar

This year, in the religious city of Haridwar, a very rare and spiritual combination of Maharatri of Holi and lunar eclipse has written a unique chapter of faith. On this special occasion, the saints and sages of Niranjani and Juna Akhara not only took a dip in the salvation-giving Ganga, but also demonstrated their collective strength for the welfare of humanity.

As soon as the eclipse period ended, the ghats of the pilgrimage city echoed with the cheers of saints and devotees. Mahamandaleshwar, Sanyasi and Brahmachari of Niranjani Akhara and Juna Akhara gathered at Ganga Ghat with traditional rituals. The saints purified themselves by taking a virtuous bath in the cool water and after this began the period of sadhana which filled the entire atmosphere with divinity.

During discussion with the media, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj threw light on the importance of this coincidence. He said:

“In the scriptures, the eclipse period is considered the best for spiritual practice. The simultaneous occurrence of Holi and lunar eclipse is like a golden opportunity for the seekers. It is believed that chanting one rosary during this period provides the same virtuous results as chanting one crore rosaries on normal days.”

Confluence of meditation and determination
After bathing, a grand scene was seen on the banks of Ganga. For about an hour, saints, Sanskrit students and devotees sat together and chanted mantras and chanted collectively. The main purpose of this ritual was:

• Establishment of world peace.
• Human welfare and progress of Sanatan Dharma.
• Progress and prosperity of Uttarakhand state.

Spiritual discipline amid strict rules
The proof of the saints’ unwavering devotion towards this divine coincidence was visible in their discipline. Following the classical rules of the eclipse, all the saints and devotees had abstained from food since early morning. Only after taking bath in Ganga and completing the collective puja, everyone completed their fast by taking Prasad.

This event, which concluded with devotion, reverence and chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’, was not only important from the religious point of view, but it once again showcased the grandeur of Haridwar’s cultural and spiritual heritage to the world.
