Significance of Jivitputrika Vrat
There is a mythological belief that any mother who observes this fast never has to face the separation from her child. Her child gets long life and protection from any sorrow and trouble throughout life. In this Gandharva prince Jimutvahan is worshipped.
How did it get the name Jivitputrika? (Jivitputrika Vrat History)
During the Mahabharata war, after the death of his father, Ashwatthama became very angry. In this anger, he entered the Pandavas’ camp. At that time 5 people were sleeping inside the camp. Ashwatthama thought that they were Pandavas and to avenge his father’s death, he killed all five of them.
However, in reality, Draupadi had five children. When Arjun came to know about this, he captured Ashwatthama and snatched his Divyamani. Now Ashwatthama’s anger increased even more and to take revenge, he killed the child growing in Abhimanyu’s wife Uttara’s womb.
Lord Krishna gave the fruits of all his good deeds to Uttara’s unborn child and brought him back to life. Because of dying and coming back to life, the child was named Jivitputrika.
