story of kartik purnima
According to Vratutsav Chandrika Chapter Number 31, since ancient times it is popular by the name of Kataki or Kartiki. Matsya incarnation of Vishnu also took place on this day. There is a story behind the purity that on this day Lord Shiva had killed the demon named Tripurasura. Tripura had created terror and chaos all around. Through rigorous penance, he had obtained the boon that neither man nor woman, nor god nor demon would kill him. Only that person who was without a parent would kill him.
Although Tripura wanted immortality, Brahma said that he was not capable of giving such a boon. So Tripura had to be satisfied with this. But his violence continued to increase. He made the gods his gatekeepers. There was chaos all around. One day Narad reached Tripura. His departure is always for a positive reason, after inquiring about his well-being, Tripura wanted to know from Narad whether there is anyone else as powerful as him. Knowing that he was the most powerful, he became more destructive.
On the other hand, Narad went to the gods and asked them why they were tolerating this terror. As a solution, the Gods first sent Apsaras to trap Tripura. When things did not work out, he went to Brahma. Brahma told that since he himself is the giver of blessings, he cannot do anything. The gods then went to Vishnu. Vishnu then told the gods that in fact all the things that were required to kill Tripura applied to Lord Shiva. Then all the gods persuaded Mahadev and he also agreed. Mahadev started killing the demons with bow and arrow. After this, Mahadev killed all the demons and Tripur itself.
On this day, by doing charity after bathing in the Ganga, all sins and sufferings are destroyed. Our Sikh brothers and sisters also celebrate this day as Guruparab. Guru Nanak was also born on this day. People also call this day as “Dev Deepawali”, it is also the last day of Deepalwali and Kartik month.
