Kartik Purnima on 15th November, a rare coincidence, know how to worship

Kartik Purnima 2024 LIVE: 15 November 2024 is the last day of Kartik month i.e. Kartik Purnima. Purnima is celebrated as a festival in Hindu religion. It is believed that on Kartik Purnima, Gods bathe in the Ganga on earth and Diwali is celebrated by lighting lamps in the river-lake in the evening.

This is the reason why Kartik Purnima is also called Dev Diwali. It is believed that the religious activities done on this festival give eternal virtue, its effect lasts for the whole life.

Kartik Purnima’s relation with Shiva

The full moon of Kartik month is also known as Tripuri Purnima or the full moon of Ganga Snan. This day is called Tripuri Purnima because on this day Lord Bholenath had killed the demon named Tripurasura, due to which the gods were happy. In whose happiness the gods came to Shivlok i.e. Kashi and celebrated Diwali. This tradition has been going on since then.

Importance of Dev Diwali

On Kartik Purnima, Lord Vishnu resides in the river in the Matsya incarnation. It is believed that by taking a bath in Ganga in Kashi and donating a lamp on the full moon day of Kartik month, ancestors get salvation. Also one gets freedom from Pitra Dosh. On this day, those who recite Satyanarayan Katha at home receive special blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.

The month long Akashdeep Utsav in Kashi also ends on this day. On this day, the month long Kartik Snan ends.

How to take bath in Ganga on Kartik Purnima

Taking a holy bath at Hari Ki Pauri in Haridwar and Ganga Ghat in Banaras is considered extremely sacred and auspicious, hence one must definitely take bath in the Ganga on this day. If you cannot take bath in Ganga then add Ganga water to the water at home and take bath. Some people also perform Tulsi Vivah ritual on this day.
