Shardiya Navratri 2024 Day 1 Maa Shailputri Puja: The first day of Shardiya Navratri is considered the most special. The reason for this is that Ghatasthapana of the Goddess takes place on this day.
On the nine-day festival of Navratri, the presiding deity of the first day is Goddess Shailputri. She is the daughter of Himalaya Raj, that is why she is called Shailputri (daughter of Himalaya). According to the prestigious book, during the worship of this day, most of the yogis forget all the emotions of the mind and settle the mind in the Mooladhar Chakra. He has a trident in his right hand and a lotus flower in his left hand.
The mantra of Goddess Shailputri is (Maa Shailputri Mantra)
Namah to Goddess Shailputriya. Vande Vanchitlabhay Chandrardhkritshekharam.
Story of Maa Shailputri (Maa Shailputri Katha in Hindi)
In fact, Shailputri was incarnated in her previous birth as Daksh’s daughter Sati. He also got married to Lord Shiva. But his father organized a Mahayagya at his place. In this yagya, all the gods were invited to take their share of the yagya, but Daksha did not invite Lord Shiva. When Sati got wind of this event, she became anxious to participate in it. She was aware of her father’s hatred towards Lord Shiva but still she insisted on going there. Mahadev tried hard to convince her, but Sati did not agree.
Ultimately Mahadev had to give permission. After reaching Daksh’s yagya, everything seemed to have changed. Except mother, no one was happy with his arrival. The sisters were also making fun and satire and the father was speaking harsh words. Sati had never imagined such behaviour. Usually the gods present in front of Lord Shiva were happily accepting their share of the yagya.
Seeing her husband being despised in this way, Sati found everything unbearable. He understood why Lord Shiva was refusing to come here. In anger and remorse, Sati left her body without a moment’s delay in Yogagni (fire of Yagya).
At that very moment, Mahadev sent his followers and destroyed that yagya. The same Sati is born in this birth as Shailputri or Parvati, the daughter of Himalayan King. This goddess has infinite powers which she uses at the right time. On this day, food is offered to a virgin girl and women wear orange or white saree.
