Maulana Jarjis Ansari: Amidst the controversy over Krishna Janmabhoomi in UP, a controversial statement of Maulana Jarjis Ansari of Etawah district on Shri Krishna is going viral. In his statement, Maulana described Shri Krishna as a Muslim and said that Krishna also used to offer namaz five times a day.
Maulana has made this claim on the basis of a verse from Geeta. Let us know what that verse is and its meaning.
Maulana called Shri Krishna a Muslim
In his speech, Maulana Jarjis Ansari mentioned a verse from Srimad Bhagavad Gita. He quoted 10 verses of 6th chapter of Gita-
Yogi yunjit sattamatmanam rahasi situated. Lonely mind, despairing soul,
Cited and explained its meaning that it is written in the verse that when you worship God, do yoga of the whole body. Puja should not be done just by standing, but by doing yoga of the whole body.
In his speech, Maulana said that if people of Hindu religion read their scriptures carefully then they will start liking Islam religion.
What is the real meaning of the verse?
According to Srimad Bhagavad Gita, in this verse Lord Krishna tells Arjun that the yogi (meditation) should stay in a secluded place, alone, keeping his mind and senses under control, without any desire and feeling of accumulation, and should continuously concentrate his mind in yoga (meditation).
Why did Shri Krishna say this verse to Arjun?
Arjun falls into temptation and dilemma in the battlefield of Mahabharata. In the first five chapters, Shri Krishna preaches Karmayoga, Gyanyoga and selfless action. After this, in the sixth chapter he explains how to steady and concentrate the mind.
Shri Krishna is explaining to Arjun through verses that merely hearing the knowledge is not enough. Regular meditation is necessary to control the mind and connect with God. Therefore, he tells the ideal conditions for meditation. The purpose of these things is to make Arjun understand that to overcome the fickleness of the mind, it is necessary to practice disciplinedly.
Maulana misinterpreted the meaning of the verse
According to the Gita, the main theme of the shloka is meditation, self-control and mental concentration, and not prescription of any particular physical method of worship. Here yoga means worship of God and meditation on Him, not yoga (exercise). Maulana Ansari misinterpreted the verse,
After the statement came out, Hindu organizations have expressed their deep displeasure against Maulana Jarjis Ansari and demanded his arrest. Although this video is being said to be old but it is going viral amid the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi controversy.
