Somvar Puja: Why is Monday auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva, you may not know this big reason

Monday Puja: You can worship Mahadev, the God of Gods, regularly or on any day. But to get the special blessings of Shiv Shambhu, Monday is considered the most auspicious day. Because in the scriptures, Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It is believed that Mahadev is quickly pleased with the worship and fasting done on Monday. But do you know why only Monday is auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva and how this day became dedicated to Shiva?

Why is Monday auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva (Why Lord Shiva Puja on Monday)

• There are many mythological stories and beliefs behind why Monday is so dear to Mahadev and why this Lord Shiva is worshipped.
• Half the answer to this question is related to the name of this day. Actually, Monday means ‘Som’ i.e. Moon which is adorned in the matted locks of Lord Shiva. Another meaning of the word Som is gentle, which is the nature of Lord Shiva.
• Apart from this, when we pronounce Monday, OM comes automatically. Therefore, it is believed that Shiva is present in every particle of Monday, which increases the importance of this day.
• According to a legend, it was on Monday that Chandra Dev got relief from tuberculosis by worshipping Mahadev. It is believed that since then Monday is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva.
• According to another legend, to get Shiva as her husband, Maa Parvati did severe penance and fasted on 16 Mondays (16 Somvar vrat), due to which the Lord was pleased and received her. From this time onwards, the tradition of keeping Monday fast is considered to have started.
