Big step to save the drying Indravati river in Bastar, river journey will be held on Environment Day

Indravati River News: Expressing concern over the rapidly drying up water level in the Indravati river, which is called the lifeline of Bastar in Chhattisgarh, the Indravati Bachao Manch has once again said to wake up the government and start a river walk on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5. Under the leadership of Indravati Bachao Manch, hundreds of Bastar residents will travel about 8 km from the world famous Chitrakote waterfall to Bijakasa, and attract the attention of the government.

Members of the Indravati Bachao Manch say that the Indravati river is the lifeline of millions of Bastar residents, but year by year the water level of the river is decreasing and both the central and state governments are not serious about it. Due to this, in the scorching heat, the residents of Bastar will take out a river yatra on June 5 and demand an end to the Joranala dispute.

Bastar residents are demanding to end the Jora Nala dispute

Actually, Bastar residents have been demanding for the promotion and protection of the Indravati river for a long time, for the last few years, the water of the Indravati river is rapidly decreasing in the summer season, to save it, the intellectuals of Bastar have formed the Indravati Bachao Manch. Is, and in the year 2019, about 140 km to save the drying Indravati river. Indravati Development Authority was formed to save the river after attracting the attention of the government by taking Mee’s river journey, but till now no concrete effort has been made to save the river.

Indravati Bachao Manch members Kishore Parakh, Sampat Jha, Santosh Jain, Padmashree Dharmapal Saini and Urmila Acharya, among others, say that Bastar has been shifted from Odisha to Odisha because of the dam built by the Odisha government in Jora Nala, located on the border of Orissa and Chhattisgarh. The flow of the Indravati river flowing towards Bastar has reduced considerably and almost no water is coming towards Bastar. Because of this, the residents of Bastar, who depend on the water of this river from Jagdalpur to Bijapur district, are facing a lot of problems.

River water level on the verge of drying up

Farmers are not getting water for irrigation. At the same time, the famous Chitrakote waterfall in the country also seems to be drying up. In such a situation, along with the Indravati Bachao Manch, the Bastar residents are also demanding an end to the Jora Nala dispute going on between the two governments for a long time. Members say that at present the water level of Indravati river is on the verge of drying up. In such a situation, if concrete steps are not taken on this soon, then the existence of Indravati river is in danger.

With this in mind, on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, an 8 kilometer padayatra is being taken out under the aegis of Indravati Bachao Manch. In this, along with Jagdalpur city residents, hundreds of people from rural areas will participate in this river march and while attracting the attention of the government, they will soon demand to end the Jora Nala dispute to save the Indravati river.
