Cold wreaks havoc in Delhi, 13 year record broken in Palam, mercury drops to 3 degrees

The harsh winter in Delhi and NCR has broken all records of cold this season. The next three days are going to be very difficult in the capital. The Indian Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature in the capital has reached 2.9 degrees Celsius, while an orange alert has been issued on January 12 and 13. During this period, dense fog, cold wave and extremely cold nights will increase the problems of the people.

Record breaking cold and weather conditions

The coldest night of the season was recorded in Delhi NCR on Sunday night, when the minimum temperature in Ayanagar area was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius. This was the coldest day in the capital after January 15, 2024. In the last 24 hours, the weather remained clear with sunshine during the day, but as the night approached, the cold became intense.

On January 12, the minimum temperature is expected to fall to 2 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to be around 18 degrees Celsius. It will be cloudy and cold wave will continue continuously.

Know the weather department’s warning

According to IMD, orange alert will be applicable in entire NCR including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad on 12th and 13th January. There will be dense fog. The temperature can drop up to 2 degrees Celsius at night. There is a possibility of very low visibility.

The Meteorological Department has warned that there may be a further drop of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature in the next three days, due to which the temperature will go much below normal. For this reason, it has been advised to avoid going out of the house at night, because the effect of cold will be more at night.

Temperature, AQI and further forecast of cities

On Monday, Delhi’s temperature was 18.2 degrees Celsius and AQI 311, Noida 18.6 and AQI 316, Ghaziabad 18.5 and AQI 328, Gurugram 18.4 and AQI 295, Greater Noida 18.5 and AQI 312 and Faridabad 18.5 degrees Celsius and AQI 276.

IMD said that the yellow alert will continue on January 14, when the effect of dense fog and cold wave will continue. However, after January 14, an increase of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius is possible in the temperature and some improvement in the weather may be seen by January 17.
