Jayant Patil claims, all records sent to Ajit are fake, out of 53 MLAs with Sharad Pawar

NCP Political Crisis: A day after Praful Patel claimed that the Ajit Pawar faction has the support of 42 MLAs, the Sharad Pawar-led faction refuted his claim, saying that 25 of the 53 MLAs are with them. We argue that the claim of the Ajit Pawar faction is hollow. There is no division as most of the MLAs are with Sharad Pawar. We have already submitted our records to the Election Commission of India (ECI). We are sure that she will not take any decision without listening to us.

According to a news report published in TOI, Patil alleged that all the records submitted by the Ajit Pawar faction to the Election Commission appear to be fabricated. “Praful Patel said that all the affidavits were submitted to ECI on June 30 and in the same affidavit it was mentioned that Ajit Pawar has been elected as NCP President in place of Sharad Pawar. If so, how is it that a few days later, Ajit Pawar announced that Sharad Pawar would still continue as NCP president?

All this seems contradictory. Patil said, “As per the NCP’s constitution, Sharad Pawar will continue to be the NCP president and Ajit Pawar’s claim on the post has no legal validity.”

Patil said, he said, it appears that all these meetings were held in secret before the rebellion became public on 2 July. It is indeed a mystery why Ajit Pawar kept mum for a whole week to declare that he is the NCP President. They should tell where the meetings were held and who attended these meetings.

Patil said, “The 10th Schedule of the Constitution is very clear, it does not recognize division. There is no such thing as two-thirds of the members being required for division. We are not going to get into that debate, all we know is that we have the numbers.
