Today, on the first anniversary of the dastardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025, protests and tribute marches were taken out across the Kashmir Valley from tourist places to border areas. Local people took to the streets in large numbers against terrorism and expressed their deep condolences and solidarity towards the families of the victims.
More than 2,000 students took out a solidarity march in Karnah sub-division of the border district of Kupwara. These students of the Army Goodwill School (Hazinar and Tithwal) and Government Degree College (Kandi) strongly protested against terrorism, despite being very close to the Line of Control (LoC)—in the direct line of fire of the Pakistan Army.
The organizers described it as the voice of the young generation which completely rejects violence and believes in a peaceful, democratic and progressive Jammu and Kashmir. This March’operation vermilion‘ and in memory of the victims of Pahalgam attack.
Tributes paid with tearful eyes in Gurez and Baramulla
Peaceful rallies were also organized by local residents and students in Gurez Valley of Bandipora and Baramulla. People marched with placards and flags in their hands and observed silence in memory of the 26 tourists (including a local civilian) who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack. The participants united in this hour of grief and gave a strong message to maintain peace and patience in the entire region.
Demand for strict action against the conspirators
On the first anniversary of the attack, political parties also expressed their anger and support. A large protest march was taken out from the BJP office in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Baisaran (Pahalgam) attack.
At the same time, a huge rally was organized by BJP in Anantnag district, in which senior leader and former MLC Sophie Yusuf participated along with many party workers. The party leaders assured of standing firmly with the families of the victims and strongly demanded strictest action against the main conspirators of this deadly attack.
