A big and historic step has been taken towards pollution control and cleanliness of Yamuna river in the country’s capital Delhi. An important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on Wednesday in the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. This agreement has been signed for the establishment of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) projects in Delhi.
This initiative is being considered a milestone in the direction of cleanliness of Yamuna, scientific management of cow dung and clean energy production. It is noteworthy that earlier, about 1,500 metric tons of cow dung used to flow directly into Yamuna river every day from different areas of Delhi, which was a major cause of water pollution. Now through this new project, this waste and dung will be sent directly to the plant, which will directly put a brake on the filth falling into Yamuna.

CBG gas and organic fertilizer will be made, income of cattle farmers will increase
Through this joint initiative of MCD and NDDB, the collected cow dung will be converted into Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) and high quality organic manure. This will greatly strengthen the ‘Yamuna Cleanliness Campaign’. At the same time, this scheme of making Kanchan from waste will also provide new opportunities to the cow shelters and cattle rearers of Delhi to earn additional income by selling cow dung.
