UP By-Polls 2024: Notification will be issued today at the local level for the by-elections to be held on Phulpur and other 8 seats of Sangam city Prayagraj. Meanwhile, the official lists of Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party, Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party are awaited. SP has so far announced candidates for 6 seats – Karhal, Meerapur, Phulpur, Sisamau, Katehri and Majhwan. SP had also fielded a candidate from Milkipur seat in Ayodhya, however, due to the election petition, the Election Commission of India has not announced elections on this seat.
Talking about Phulpur, District Election Officer and DM Ravindra Kumar Mandar will issue notification here. After the release of the notification, the work of sale of nomination papers and filing of nomination will also start from today itself. From today till October 25, nomination papers can be filed daily from 11 am to 3 pm.
Scrutiny of nomination papers for Phulpur assembly seat will take place on October 28, while nominations can be withdrawn till October 30. On October 30 itself, the list of valid candidates will be released and election symbols will be allotted to them. Voting for Phulpur assembly seat will take place on November 13 and counting of votes will take place on November 23. 215 polling centers and 435 polling booths have been made here for voting.
Polling parties will leave from Mundera Mandi of the city to conduct voting in Phulpur assembly seat. Counting of votes will also be conducted on November 23 in Mundera Mandi itself.
A total of four lakh 7 thousand 366 voters will exercise their franchise. This includes 2 lakh 23 thousand 560 men, 1 lakh 83 thousand 748 women and 58 third gender voters. The district administration has divided Phulpur assembly constituency into 38 sectors and 4 zones.
Strict security arrangements have also been made to conduct the voting process in a peaceful, fair and transparent manner. Action will be taken to ban criminals and history-sheeters living in Phulpur assembly constituency. The Election Commission has set a maximum limit of Rs 40 lakh for the election expenses of the candidates.
Samajwadi Party has declared three-time MLA Mohammad Mujtaba Siddiqui as its candidate for Phulpur assembly seat, while Bahujan Samaj Party has given ticket to Shivbaran Pasi. Former District Panchayat member Shahid Akhtar Khan is the candidate from Chandrashekhar Ravan’s Azad Samaj Party, while BJP has not yet opened its cards.
