One constable killed, three policemen injured after being hit by a speeding tempo in Kanpur

Kanpur News: A 26-year-old constable died after being hit by a speeding tempo on the highway in Akbarpur area of ​​Kanpur Dehat district in the early hours of Wednesday. Apart from this, three other policemen were injured in the road accident. Officials said that the incident took place when the policemen were trying to help a drunkard lying on the highway. He told that the drunkard also died in the accident, whose identity has not been ascertained.

A senior police officer said that a sub-inspector is also among the three injured policemen and they have been admitted to the hospital. Additional Superintendent of Police (Kanpur Dehat) Rajesh Kumar Pandey said sub-inspector Mathura Prasad, along with head constable Arvind Kumar and constables Saurabh Kumar and Vivek Kumar, were on patrol when they found a drunk man lying on the highway at Madhapur bridge.

Rajesh Kumar Pandey said the policemen immediately jumped out of their vehicle and as constable Vivek Kumar tried to pull the drunkard, a speeding loader-tempo hit him and he fell off the bridge and died. He said that other policemen received serious injuries on hands, legs and waist and were taken to the district hospital, from where constable Saurabh was shifted to Regency Hospital.

The ASP said, the deceased Vivek Kumar, a native of Saharanpur, had joined the Uttar Pradesh Police in 2019 and was posted at the Akbarpur police station. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the guilty driver, identified as Delhi resident Surendra Kumar Gupta (40), and seized the vehicle, another official said. ASP Pandey told that after the postmortem the body of the constable was handed over to his family.

After getting information about the constable’s death, district police chief B B G T S Murthy and top officials reached the spot. Police said that an FIR has been registered under sections 279, 304A, 337 and 338 of the IPC.
