GPM PDS Rice News: The crisis of rice available under PDS has started in GPM district of Chhattisgarh. There has been a shortage of rice in the warehouses of the Civil Supplies Corporation. Only one month’s lifting capacity rice is left in the godown. One-third of the total storage capacity is available in the godowns of the rice warehouse.
After this month, there is no stock of rice to be distributed in the public distribution system. According to the rule of governance, at least 3 months of rice should be in the warehouse. The reason for the shortage of rice is said to be that the situation has worsened due to non-deposit of CMR (Custom Milled Rice) rice by many rice millers for two months. Due to this, a shortage of 80 metric tonnes of paddy has been found in 9 rice mills.
According to the rule, 3 months stock should be there in the godowns.
Rice crisis has arisen in Pendra district. Under the public distribution system, only one-third of the rice distributed by the Civil Supplies Corporation is left in the godowns of the Warehouse Corporation. The storage capacity of the warehouses of the District’s Warehousing Corporation is approximately 15600 metric tonnes. At the same time, only about 5000 metric tonnes of rice is left in the district. At the same time, every month in the district, about 34888 quintals of rice is lifted and stored in ration shops in the entire district. According to the rules, in any case, 3 months’ worth of rice must be stored in the godowns of the warehouse.
Now only one third of the rice is left in the godowns
But the situation has completely worsened due to non-deposit of rice by the rice mills in the district. In fact, most of the rice millers in the district did not deposit the prescribed amount of CMR for several months. Due to non-availability of rice, the stored rice was distributed in the public distribution system, but due to non-availability of new rice, the stock could not be replenished. Now only one third of the rice is left in the godowns. At present, the situation is that if the rice is not deposited after lifting this month, then the Civil Supplies Corporation does not have any rice to distribute in the public distribution system next month.
notice given to rice millers
When we talked to the District Food Officer Shweta Agarwal on the matter, she says that the department is constantly pressurizing the rice millers to deposit rice, for which a meeting was also held and a notice was issued, but the rice millers did not deposit the rice. Due to which this situation has arisen. The Administration and the Food Department are constantly pressurizing the millers to deposit the rice within 2 days. The millers have assured that the milled rice will be deposited as soon as possible. It is expected that the rice will be deposited soon.
Investigation found shortage of 80 metric tonnes of paddy
In fact, after contracting custom milling, the rice millers have to deposit the raised paddy rice to the Civil Supplies Corporation within the contracted time, but the rice millers had stopped depositing rice in the godowns of the Civil Supplies Corporation for several months. or reduced it altogether. Because of which there was a shortage of rice in the godowns, then the administration, taking cognizance of the matter, gave continuous notices to 9 rice millers to deposit rice. When the millers did not deposit the rice despite the notice, the rice mills were investigated. In the investigation, 80 metric tonnes of paddy was found less. After which 2.05 lakh quintals of paddy of 9 rice millers were confiscated.
Now the question is that where was 80 metric paddy
On the other hand, when the answer was sought from the rice millers, the millers replied that rice could not be stored due to breakage in 60 percent of the paddy, which the administration has rejected this answer being dissatisfied. The administration has not yet taken strict action against the guilty rice millers after the shortage of 80 metric tonnes of paddy was found in the same rice mills. Because of which the spirits of the rice millers are high. The reason behind the shortage of rice is also being speculated that after lifting the rice, either the rice millers sold the rice or took the money for paddy by making DO adjustments. Because of which there was shortage of paddy in mills and now the shortage of rice is increasing in the district.
