Punjab News: In view of the by-election on the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, the Punjab government has declared May 10 as a local holiday in government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions. This holiday has been declared under the Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. Votes will be cast on the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat from 8 am to 6 pm on Wednesday, while the counting of votes will take place on May 13. The seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary. Chaudhary died of a heart attack while attending Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The notification issued by the state government states that any employee who is eligible to vote in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat and works in a state government office, board, institution or government educational institution should submit his voter ID card to the concerned authority. Can apply for special leave by showing This leave will not be deducted from the leave account of that employee. Similarly, employees working in any private institution, business or any industrial undertaking will also be entitled to paid leave on 10th.
Chief Election Commissioner held a review meeting regarding preparations
Meanwhile, Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C conducted a virtual review of the preparations and arrangements for the elections. While Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh informed the Punjab CEO that necessary arrangements are being finalized at all 1972 polling stations, he said that voter slips have already been distributed to 98 percent voters. He said that cameras have been installed at all the polling booths so that polling activities can be monitored. Singh said that 302 micro observers will be deployed at 252 sensitive polling stations. He also informed that nodal officers have also been deputed at the district and assembly constituency level. DC said that the transportation of electronic voting machines will also be done with proper security arrangements and 703 GPS equipped vehicles have been deployed for this work.
