Special session of new assembly begins in Maharashtra, 288 MLAs including CM-Deputy CM took oath

Maharashtra News: The special session of the new assembly started in Maharashtra from today (7 December). Pro-tem speaker is administering oath to the newly elected 288 MLAs. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar has taken oath. The special session will be for three days during which the new speaker will also be elected.

Pro-tem speaker Kalidas Kolambkar is administering oath to the new MLAs while the election of the new speaker will be held on December 9. After this, a confidence motion will be brought in the House for the Mahayuti government. After the trust vote is passed, the Governor will address both the houses of the Assembly.

Possible date of cabinet expansion

Even after the formation of the government in Maharashtra, the situation is not clear as to which party will get which ministry. Amidst the ongoing tussle over the cabinet, a Mahayuti meeting may be held today while there is a possibility of cabinet expansion on 11-12 December.

Now the question is that how many departments will be given to the constituent parties of Mahayuti, BJP, Shiv Shiv Sena and NCP. In Maharashtra, 43 ministers can be made along with the CM. Since BJP is the largest party, it is likely to have the maximum number of departments. It is believed that BJP may get 21-22 ministries while the other big party Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena may get 11-12 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP may get 9-10 departments.

There is a special tussle in Maharashtra regarding the Finance Department and Home Department. Eknath Shinde wants the Home department but like the previous government, BJP will keep this department while Ajit Pawar can be given finance. There itself, Eknath Shinde Important ministries like revenue and urban development can be handed over to him. A leader from the BJP has said that the situation regarding the number of ministers will become clear in the next one or two days.
