Are Muslims in Bangladesh tying and selling Hindu women? Know the truth of the viral video

Bangladesh Viral Video: Amid violence and unrest in Bangladesh following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, a video of burqa-clad women tying other women to a pole with ropes has gone viral on social media. Those sharing it claimed that Muslim women in Bangladesh held Hindu women hostage and tortured them and sold them as slaves for prostitution.

A person shared the video on Facebook and wrote, ‘Hindu women in Bangladesh are being held hostage and sold by the Muslims who have come to power. Where is the outrage? Where are the protests?’ On investigating this video, it was found that this video was taken before Sheikh Hasina left the country. This video is from a university in Dhaka, where student leaders associated with Sheikh Hasina’s party were tied up during the ongoing protest against quota reform.

Reverse searching the viral clip revealed that the same video was shared by a Facebook user on July 18. He captioned the video in Bangla as Badrunnisa College. A Google search revealed that Begum Badrunnisa Government Girls’ College is located in Dhaka. At that time, the same video was shared by many people, with the name of the college clearly mentioned.

Awami League student leaders tied up
Upon further search, several media reports were found about this incident. It was reported that four leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (student wing of Bangladesh Awami League) were forced to do sit-ups by holding their ears by student protesters at Begum Badrunnisa Government Girls’ College. Apart from this, student protesters tied two leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League to a pole with ropes, a video of which went viral on social media.

An incident from a college in Dhaka
The report states that the incident took place in the college hostel on July 17. Students protesting against quota reforms in the college tied up the leaders of the student wing of the Awami League after a dispute. When teachers intervened, the RP students fled from the college. Habiba Akhtar Simon, general secretary of the student league in this college, had left the campus before the incident. Four student leaders present in the campus were harassed during the protest due to some old rivalry.

The matter of tying with rope is true, the claims are false
In this investigation, it was revealed that the girl students were tied with ropes, but the fact that they are Hindus and were sold has been proved wrong. That is, the claims made on social media linking them to the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh are wrong. No case of atrocities against Hindu women has come to light in this video.
