Bashar al-Assad broke his silence after the coup, said – ‘Syria is in the hands of terrorists’

In his first statement after fleeing Syria, Bashar al-Assad said he had no intention of leaving the country after the fall of Damascus, but Russian forces evacuated him after his base in western Syria was attacked. Assad said in a statement on his Facebook page that he left Damascus on the morning of December 8, when rebels attacked the capital. Assad said in a written statement from Russia “First of all, my departure from Syria was neither planned nor did it occur during the last hours of the fighting, as some have claimed; on the contrary, I remained in Damascus, Continued performing his duties till the morning of Sunday 8th December 2024,”

Planned to continue fighting in Latakia
He said they left for the Russian base in Latakia in coordination with Russian allies, where they planned to continue fighting. Assad said, “When terrorist forces infiltrated into Damascus, I coordinated with my Russian colleagues and went to Latakia to oversee combat operations. Upon arriving at Hmeimim Air Base that morning, it became clear that our forces All had been completely withdrawn from the battle lines and the last position of the army had also fallen.”
