Bill Gates Celebrate Indian Independence Day: Billionaire philanthropist and co-founder of technology giant Microsoft Bill Gates flagged off the first India Day celebrations in the Seattle area, saying India’s prowess in every area from manufacturing safe vaccines to digital public infrastructure is helping not just Indians but the entire world.
Gates, chairman of the Gates Foundation, inaugurated the first India Day celebrations in the Greater Seattle area as the chief guest of the Consulate General of India in Seattle on the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day. Addressing more than 2,000 members of the Indian-American community at the event, Gates described India as “a global leader in unprecedented innovation in areas such as technology, agriculture and healthcare”, a press release issued by the Seattle Consulate said on Friday.
India’s skill is helping the whole world
Gates emphasized that “From the development of low-cost and safe vaccines and the remarkable leadership shown by the Indian diaspora to India’s digital public infrastructure (DPI) framework – India’s ingenuity is helping not just Indians but the whole world. Countries in the ‘Global South’ are leveraging India’s experience to build their own DPI systems.”

The term ‘Global South’ is generally used to refer to economically underdeveloped countries. The term ‘Global South’ is generally used for the regions of Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. It means especially those countries located in the Southern Hemisphere and Equatorial region outside Europe and North America, which are low-income. In a post on social media platform Instagram, Gates said that it is an “honor” to participate in the first India Day celebrations at the Seattle Consulate along with senior government officials and Indian expatriates.

Gates also shared photos of the event on Instagram. Gates, wearing a scarf in the colours of the Indian national flag, was accompanied by Consul General of India in Seattle Prakash Gupta and other officials at the event. The consulate shared a post on ‘X’ thanking Gates for flagging off the first Indian Day celebrations in the Greater Seattle area. The consulate said in a release that for the first time in the Greater Seattle area, the Indian Day celebrations were organised in the area. Independence Day The festival celebrated ‘Unity in Diversity’ through tableaus and cultural performances from all the states and union territories of India.
Big personalities attended the function
According to the release, each tableau was prepared by prominent leaders of the Indian-American community and depicted some important aspects of India’s rich cultural heritage. Other eminent personalities who participated in the India Day celebrations included MPs Suzan DelBene, Kim Shrier and Adam Smith, Lieutenant General Xavier Brunson, Commander of the US First Corps in the Pacific Northwest, Rear Admiral Mark Sucato, Commander of the Northwest Naval Area, Washington Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck and Democratic Party leader Steve Hobbs and Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court Steve Gonzalez.
