Rome: British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, his lawyer and four others are missing after a ship sank amid a storm off the coast of Sicily, Italy, early Monday, Italian authorities said. They said Lynch’s wife and 14 others were rescued. Salvo Cocina, from Sicily’s civil protection agency, said Lynch, who was acquitted in a major fraud case in the US in June, was among six people who were still missing. He said Lynch’s ship sank amid a storm near Porticello.
The accident happened near Palermo

US prosecutors had charged Mike Lynch with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and securities fraud and crimes related to years of falsifying records. He was extradited to the US from Britain to stand trial on criminal charges. Lynch, a Cambridge University graduate from Suffolk in eastern England, had denied all the allegations and denied any wrongdoing.
