Indian Students in Canada : Indian students pursuing higher education in Canada have suddenly started feeling nervous. The reason behind this was that the concerned authorities there have asked the students to re-submit important documents. Many students were sent an email from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), asking them to resubmit permits, visas and educational records for education in Canada. Which also includes the mark sheets and attendance of the students.
According to a report in Times of India, this email created a stir among Indian students, as many of these students have visas valid for two years. This step has been taken by the Government of Canada after IRCC has ended its Fast-Track Study Visa Program (SDS), so that the arrival of international students to Canada can be controlled. Apart from this, Canada has also made the conditions for applying for financial aid stricter.
Similar incidents happened last week also
Similar incidents happened in Canada last week too, when children from Punjab received similar emails and were asked to go to the IRCC office for confirmation of their certificates. This confirmation and re-checking of the information filled the students with doubt and panic.
According to the Indian High Commission, India is the largest source country of foreign students for Canada. An estimated 4,27,000 Indian students are studying in Canada. Manisha Patel, a business management student, said, “We chose Canada for its welcoming environment, but this situation feels completely wrong.”
the students IRCC sought clear information on the matter from
Indian students have appealed to IRCC to provide clear information on this matter and allay their fears regarding their situation in the country. However, till then, students have been advised to work as per the instructions, so that any further problems can be avoided.
On October 24, Immigration Minister Mark Miller announced the latest immigration strategy. In this, Miller said that Canada will accept about 3,95,000 permanent residents in 2025, which is about 20 percent less than this year’s estimated 4,85,000.
