Trudeau said, “Some people exploit immigrants by making them false promises of jobs, degrees and citizenship.”

According to Trudeau’s new policy, the number of permanent and temporary residents in Canada will be significantly reduced in the next three years. Trudeau said that Canada’s immigration system was made a victim of exploitation by fake colleges and big companies. He said that after the Covid pandemic, the demand for workers increased, to take advantage of which some companies and institutions gave admission to migrants by charging higher fees. The Canadian PM said, “Many colleges and universities were exploiting international students.”

The Prime Minister said that Canada’s immigration system is based on demand and temporary foreign workers have now become an important part of the workforce. “While Canada’s industries and sectors are eager to welcome new workers, our housing, health care and other infrastructure are not yet up to par,” he said.

The new policy will provide time to organize Canada’s economy and communities. Trudeau said that due to this policy, fares have started declining in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver.

Structure of the new scheme

In the new plan set for the year 2025-2027, the number of permanent residents will be reduced by 21 percent. In 2025 this number will be reduced from 5 lakh to 3,95,000. There will also be a huge decline in temporary residents. By 2026, the number of temporary workers will reduce by 40 percent and the number of international students will also reduce by 10 percent.
