Comment from America on attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, Vivek Ramaswami gave a statement

Bangladesh Violence: American entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswami expressed concern over the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Vivek Ramaswami wrote on X (formerly Twitter), ‘The targeted violence against Hindus in Bangladesh is wrong, it is worrying, and it is a warning to victim-based quota systems.’

After former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country on August 5, several incidents of attacks on Hindus, the largest minority community in Bangladesh, have been reported. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad have claimed that there have been 205 incidents of attacks on minorities in 52 districts since the fall of the Hasina government, news agency PTI reported.

Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, has condemned the attacks on minorities. On Tuesday, he visited the Dhakeshwari Devi temple in Dhaka, where he said that everyone has equal rights in Bangladesh. In his Tuesday post, Ramaswami criticized the quota system in Bangladesh, saying that it has proved to be a disaster.

Radicals are targeting Hindus
He said, ‘In 2018, Bangladesh abolished most quotas due to protests, but victim-defenders opposed it and the quota system was reinstated this year. This led to more protests, which led to the fall of the government and the prime minister fleeing the country. Once chaos begins, it cannot be easily controlled. The fundamentalists are now targeting Hindu minorities.’

We need to learn from the violence in Bangladesh
He said, ‘The Kota struggle designed to correct the wrongs of rape and violence in 1971 is now leading to more rape and violence in 2024. Bloodshed is the end point of suffering. The violence in Bangladesh has forced us to take lessons at home.’

Hindus protest in Bangladesh
Last week on Saturday, thousands of Hindus protested in Dhaka and Chittagong demanding protection from attacks on their temples, homes and businesses. Hindu protesters blocked traffic for more than three hours in Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Saturday. They are demanding the establishment of special courts to try those accused of atrocities against minorities, 10 percent parliamentary seats for minorities and implementation of the Minority Protection Act, etc.
