Communal violence erupts in Nepal’s Sunsari, one dead; Restrictions apply until further orders

There was a dispute between the two sides regarding the use of loudspeakers and installation of religious flags. After this the dispute turned into violence. After receiving the information, the security forces team is trying to control the situation. So far, one youth has died in this case, while some other people are also said to be injured. In view of the violence, restrictions have been imposed in the area.

Restrictions will remain in effect until further orders

Actually, one person died in a communal clash in Sunsari district. Many other people including security personnel were injured in this clash. In view of this clash, the authorities have imposed indefinite restrictions in some parts of the area from Monday. According to Sunsari District Administration Office, the restrictions have come into effect from 7 am. These include five market areas of the district located in Kosi province. These restrictions will remain in force until further orders. Under the restrictions, gathering of more than four people, demonstrations, public meetings and sit-ins have been banned in the affected areas.

Violence broke out over different programs

Police said the violence broke out in Kaptanganj area of ​​Devganj Rural Municipality on Sunday night. People of two religious communities were organizing different programs here. During this time, they clashed among themselves over the use of loudspeakers and putting up religious flags. He said the altercation between the two groups turned into violence, following which security personnel had to intervene. While trying to control the situation, security forces opened fire, killing 24-year-old Om Prakash Mehta.

Violence in areas adjacent to India

Police said that more than a dozen people, including security personnel, were injured in the clashes. The administration said those violating the restrictions could be fined 500 Nepali rupees, jail up to one month, or both. Let us tell you that Sunsari, located in south-eastern Nepal, shares its border with Bihar and is an important transit and commercial corridor between the two countries.
