Lebanon Pager Blast: Thousands of pagers exploded in Lebanon, killing several people and injuring hundreds of people. These blasts are said to be related to Kerala. Kerala-born Norwegian businessman Rinson Jose has been accused of selling his company’s pagers. According to a report by Hungarian news site Telex, Rinson Jose has been accused of selling pagers related to the Lebanon blasts through his company Norta Global.
The Norta Global company based in Sofia, Bulgaria also removed its website from the Internet on Thursday (September 19). This website had advertisements of Rinson’s work in technology consulting. Norta Global office could not be found at its registered address either.
Bulgaria’s National Security Agency made the claims
Rinson Jose declined to comment when contacted by Reuters. Bulgaria’s national security agency launched an investigation into the claims and on Friday denied that the firm had any involvement in supplying pagers to Hezbollah. It said the firm’s owner had “not carried out any transactions involving the sale or purchase of goods” or that “fall under terrorism funding laws”.
Kerala police also investigated
While the Kerala police and central government agencies investigated Jose’s family in his native village of Ondayangadi in Kerala, tailor Muthedath Jose and Gracy’s son Rinsan lives in Norway with his wife. His brother works in the UK and his sister is a nurse in Ireland. His uncle Thankachan said that the family has not been able to contact him for the last three days.
Norway’s intelligence agency and Oslo police are investigating
While Bulgarian authorities have clarified Rinson Jose’s involvement, Norwegian intelligence agency PST and Oslo police are still investigating the case. In addition to his work as the owner of Norta Global, Rinson’s LinkedIn shows that he has been working at Oslo-based DN Media Group for five years and has several years of experience working with brands and advertising.
Names of many companies came to the fore
The deadly pager explosions that rocked Lebanon and Syria have been linked to several companies globally. According to an AFP report, the pagers bore the brand name of Taiwan-based Gola Apollo. However, Gola Apollo’s chairman claimed that the pagers were made by a Hungarian company – BAC Consulting – under a licensing agreement. However, according to the telex, BAC Consulting carried out no activity and had no office at its registered address.
12 people died and hundreds were injured
Norta Global came under the radar when it was found that it had links with BAC Consulting. Pager explosions in Lebanon, which were reportedly meant to target Hezbollah operatives, killed 12 people and seriously injured hundreds. Similar explosions in Syria killed 14 people. The blasts have been linked to Israel and Hezbollah officials have vowed to retaliate in the ongoing conflict between the two groups.
