We are using all necessary resources to rescue people from their homes and cars. 1,100 army personnel have been deployed in the flood-ravaged areas. .”

Emergency Response United 1000 members deployed

About 1,000 members of the Spanish Army’s Emergency Response Unit have been deployed to the affected areas, assisting in rescue and cleanup efforts. However, there is power shortage and phone network disruption in many areas.

Meteorologists have blamed ‘Dana’ for this torrential rain. They believe this happens when a cold air system collides with the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Whereas its effects are often local. Similar events wreaked havoc in 1966 and 1957, when the Turia river overflowed and destroyed the city of Valencia.
